Orthopedic surgery is designed to address both acute and chronic musculoskeletal
conditions. Whether you suffer from ligament damage, arthritis, muscle
tears, or joint dislocations, you shouldn’t have to live with debilitating
pain. At Shannon, our orthopedic specialists use the most advanced imaging
equipment to properly diagnose the issue, and we walk you through all
of your treatment options, so you can make the most informed decision
about your health. Our team will exhaust non-surgical treatments before
recommending surgery—but if surgical intervention is necessary,
our experts will be by your side every step of the way.
Our surgical unit is newly renovated to maximize your care and comfort.
It is staffed by specially-trained nursing staff with advanced skill in
orthopedic care, and provides access to an interdisciplinary team to address
all aspects of your recovery, including physical therapy, nutrition, pharmacy,
respiratory services, and case management.
Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatments
At Shannon, we are proud to be a leader in minimally invasive surgical
procedures with our innovative arthroscopy solutions. Unlike traditional
surgery, which requires a large incision, arthroscopy uses only two or
three small, pen-size incisions. This produces less scar tissue while
also creating a smoother, more comfortable, healing and recovery process,
so you can get back into daily activities sooner.
Our arthroscopic procedures are typically used for those under 50 years
of age where nonsurgical options have proven ineffective. Common conditions
this cutting-edge treatment can address include hip impingement, rotator
cuff tendon tears, cartilage tears, ACL tears, and loose cartilage fragments.
Joint Replacement Surgery in San Angelo
Hip, Knee & Shoulder Replacement Solutions
Our orthopedic surgeon specialists utilize state-of-the-art robotic technology
to assist with complex joint replacement surgery. The
Stryker Mako Robotic-arm system utilizes advanced instrumentation and 3D high-definition views to assist
your surgeon in offering the most minimally invasive joint replacement
surgeries possible. After our surgical team thoroughly cleans out the
damaged area, we will implant the artificial joint. Usually made out of
a combination of metal, ceramic, and medical-grade plastic, this prosthetic
integrates with the rest of your body to restore function.
Prior to surgery, our team encourages you to attend the Joint Connection
class. This educational session provides vital information to help patients
before, during, and after surgery. It includes education on how to best
plan for surgery, what to expect during your treatment, and how to continue
care once you return home. It also offers information for those who will
be caring for you at home to better understand the entire treatment process.
The class is taught by our interdisciplinary team, so you can meet everyone
who will be involved in your care at Shannon. Our goal is to provide you
with as much information in advance as possible so that you can feel stress-free
during your stay with us.
You don’t have to live with musculoskeletal discomfort, and our orthopedic
surgeons are here to help you find relief.
Orthopedic Navigator
Our Orthopedic Navigator educates patients about the entire surgical process,
including how to prepare for surgery, what to expect during your hospital
stay and what to expect after discharge. We want patients to feel prepared
before surgery, and the Total Joint Class led by our Orthopedic Navigator
allows patients to ask questions any questions and receive guidance on
each step of the process. Our Orthopedic Navigator works directly with
Case Managers and your Care Team to ensure you receive the best care before,
during and after your joint replacement surgery.

to attend The Joint Connection class before surgery, which offers vital
information about the entire treatment process, including pre-surgery
preparations, hospital visits, post-surgery care, and educating home caregivers.
The class, taught by our interdisciplinary team, allows patients to meet
their care providers and aims to provide comprehensive information in
advance for a relaxed and stress-free stay.
