San Angelo Trauma Services

Access Experienced Care As Quickly As Possible

Shannon Medical Center is designated as a Level III Lead Trauma Facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Designation means our facility has the experienced personnel and necessary facilities to provide resuscitation, stabilization, assessment, and treatment for critically ill and injured trauma patients in the region. It also means we demonstrate consistent compliance with recognized standards of care for trauma patients.

Shannon is the only Level III Trauma Facility within the region and has emergency department physicians in house 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Shannon has trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, and other specialty surgical services available ensuring the best possible care and outcome for the trauma patient.

Having a designated trauma program is essential to the health and welfare of the citizens within our community and the surrounding areas. The trauma services team continually looks for ways to improve the care of our patients and promote injury prevention. They share education with both healthcare professionals and the community and focus on the prevention of trauma within our surrounding area.
Prevention of an injury is a vital part of the trauma program. Shannon's trauma services team works with multiple agencies within our region to accomplish this goal. They work to bring injury prevention programs and education to the Concho Valley based on identified needs. This includes programs such as water safety, bicycle safety, child passenger safety, fall prevention and Stop the Bleed.
