Meet Our Residents
We are pleased to introduce the inaugural class of the of the Shannon Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Gideon Gyampoh, MD

Dr. Gyampoh received his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Ghana. He then went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Public Health from Boston University and medical degree from University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry.
He is deeply committed to providing safe, equitable care to patients from all walks of life. In Ghana, he led an outreach initiative focused on delivering healthcare and educational support to under resourced communities, an experience he credits with showing him the transformative power of access, education, and encouragement. He also served as a medical outreach volunteer, helping provide free surgical care and delivering public health education to community organizations.
Dr. Gyampoh is a member of the American Medical Association, Ghana Medical Association, Ghana Physicians and Surgeon Foundation of North America, Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps, and Virginia Project ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes.
In his free time, he enjoys watching movies based on true events, watching soccer, and hosting events for friends.
Gerardo Garcia, MD

Dr. Garcia received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Mexico.
He values building meaningful connections within the communities he serves and is driven by a desire to make a lasting impact through medicine. At La Esperanza Clinic in San Angelo, which primarily serves vulnerable patient populations, he gained valuable experience participating in patient consultation and care planning. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked alongside attending physicians and residents at a government hospital in Mexico caring for hospitalized patients, ultimately providing care during a time of immense uncertainty and strain.
In his free time, he likes to play electric bass, maintain his freshwater ecosystem, and work out. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Shivanjali Gore, MD

Dr. Gore received her medical degree from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in India.
She gained medical experience collaborating on quality improvement projects for the Mayo Clinic Critical Care Department in Jacksonville and leading a research initiative for the Hospital for Special Surgery Rheumatology Department in New York. In Mumbai, Dr. Gore volunteered in community health clinics advocating for women’s endocrine health by educating local women on osteoporosis prevention.
She is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
In her free time, she loves to cook, conduct meditation programs, and hike. She speaks English, Hindi, and Marathi.
Jasleen Kaur, MD
Dr. Kaur received her medical degree from Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in India.
Dr. Kaur is driven by advocacy and service. She has worked to support underserved communities through both healthcare and humanitarian efforts. Through her volunteer work with the Five Rivers Heart Association in Roseville, she collaborated with UC Davis to stand up medical awareness camps. She also co-founded WINGS, an organization providing clothing and other necessities to orphanages and impoverished areas in India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she created a resource database to easily locate hospital beds, oxygen cylinders, and ventilators during a time of critical need.
Dr. Kaur is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, and Haryana Medical Council. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. In her free time, Dr. Kaur enjoys canvas weaving and crocheting.
Alexander Mathew, MD
Dr. Mathew received his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Texas in Austin. He then went on to receive his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada.
Dr. Mathew is adaptable in high-pressure environments, qualities that were especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, he collaborated with medical providers to implement and support vaccination documentation software aimed at improving compliance and streamlining patient care in Houston. He also served as an ICU shadow volunteer in Round Rock, where he witnessed the profound challenges of caring for critically ill patients and gained a deep appreciation for the responsibility physicians carry in supporting both patients and their families through moments of uncertainty and crisis.
In his free time, Dr. Mathew enjoys performative dance, bodybuilding, and embroidery.
Justin Ng, DO

Dr. Ng received his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Oregon State University and then went on to receive his medical degree from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona.
Dr. Ng is deeply passionate about community engagement and hands-on service. In Portland, he organized free skin cancer screenings across both rural and urban communities to promote early detection and increase access to preventative care. In Oregon City, he partnered with a local high school to develop a health science curriculum replicating a mini medical school to inspire students to explore careers in healthcare. He has also been involved with the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club, Red Cross Blood drivers, and as a coach for the Lebanon Swim Club.
Dr. Ng is proficient in English and Chinese. In his free time, Dr. Ng enjoys hosting dinner parties, recreational sports, and competitive eating contests. He loves traveling and has visited more than 15 countries.
Andreas Protopapas, MD

Dr. Protopapas received his medical degree from University of Crete Faculty of Medicine in Greece. He is passionate about empowering others to become the best version of themselves through mentorship, education, and community engagement. As a teaching assistant in Greece, he mentored first-year medical students in academic and personal growth. He also co-founded Make it Natural, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing through inclusive activities and accessible community activities. Through its outreach, the organization has positively impacted more than 5,000 participants in Europe.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians, Medical Association of Cyprus, and the Thessaloniki Medical Association Greece.
He is fluent in English, French, Greek, and Spanish. In his free time, Dr. Protopapas enjoys racket sports, playing the flute and piano, and spending time outdoors. He is also a Guinness World Record holder for the longest duration juggling three objects while wakesurfing.
Owen Taylor, MD

Dr. Taylor received his Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston – Downtown. He then went on to receive his medical degree from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine in Antigua and Barbuda.
He believes that meaningful patient care is shaped by understanding the unique needs of communities across diverse settings and experiences. In Antigua and Barbuda, he participated in community health clinics serving populations with limited access to medical care and resources, experiences that reinforced his belief that medicine extends beyond treating individuals to caring for entire communities. He also volunteered on a church service trip in Mexico that combined medical outreach with construction efforts, helping build a church for the local community while fostering meaningful connections through service.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Radiology, American Heart Association, American Medical Association, and Association of American Medical Colleges.
Dr. Taylor is fluent in English and Spanish. In his free time, Dr. Taylor enjoys playing football, lacrosse, and powerlifting.
Aemi Tiemo, MD
Dr. Tiemo received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. She then went on to receive her Master’s Degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston and her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados.
She is committed to providing thoughtful, patient-centered care grounded in compassion, equity, and education. In Paris, she volunteered to help improve English language proficiency among disadvantaged women from war-torn backgrounds. She also served as a Summer Enrichment Instructor through UMass Medical School, where she taught high school students how to critically interpret and draw meaningful conclusions from medical journals.
She is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Medical Association. In her free time, she enjoys skiing on fresh snow trails, listening to self-help and fiction audio books, as well as traveling with her family.
Vaidheesh Varagantiwar, MD

Dr. Varagantiwar received his medical degree from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in India.
He credits his small-town roots for shaping his commitment to caring for patients with compassion, humility, and presence. During structured clinical rotations in Florida across ICU, nephrology, cardiology, he was deeply influenced by the kindness and attentiveness of his instructors. He also helped manage COVID-19 cases at a local government hospital in India, where he witnessed both the challenges faced by underserved tribal communities and the resilience that emerged during times of crisis.
He is a member of the Medical Student Association of India and Medical Council of India.
Dr. Varagantiwar is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Telugu. In his free time, Dr. Varagantiwar plays acoustic guitar, loves to cook, and watch anime.
