The DAISY Garden

The DAISY Award recognizes Shannon Medical Center and Shannon Clinic RNs and LVNs who provide exceptional care.

The honor is part of a nationwide effort to recognize the skill, care and compassion of nurses. It was started by a foundation formed by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. His family created The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in 2001 to say thank you to nurses around the country, as they believe they are truly "unsung heroes."

The DAISY Garden at Shannon will serve as a space for families, friends and loved ones to honor nurses who have touched their lives. The garden will be located at the southeast corner of the hospital, outside the Same Day Surgery entrance. A three-foot replica of "The Healer's Touch" statue given to each DAISY Award recipient will serve as the centerpiece.

Brick pavers will surround the statue and are available for purchase. Each 4-inch-by-8-inch paver can accommodate three lines of text with 12 characters per line. Pavers are $150 each.

To honor a nurse by purchasing a paver, fill out this donation sheet and return it to Kevin Castro.
