What’s New at Shannon Health Club

What’s New at Shannon Health Club

A new year gives new opportunities to create habits to improve upon your health habits and fitness goals. The Shannon Health Club invites you to "remodel" your wellness alongside them! The club has undergone many renovations within the past year to provide their members with the most comfortable, productive and enjoyable experience possible. Improvements have been made to numerous areas of the club, inside and outside, including:

Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms

To better accommodate members before and after their workouts, the Health Club has completely remodeled the men's and women's locker rooms. The carpet was removed and replaced with new tile in the locker area and showers. New showers, plumbing, ventilation and lighting were installed, along with a complete remodel of the dry saunas and steam rooms. Other changes include replacement of bathroom stalls; installation of a mirror vanity area, complete with wall outlets; and all new lockers and benches.

Pool and Hot Tub

The concrete and tile in the pool and hot tub area have been replaced and resurfaced. The pool also received a new deck, pumps, heater and chlorination system. In the near future, the pool roof will be replaced.

Workout Rooms and Areas

The older cardio machines have been replaced with upgraded Matrix models, and more machines have been added. Each machine can play cable television stations; preprogrammed trail walks or bike rides; and preprogrammed apps, such as Netflix, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, virtual games and more! Over 10 new Matrix circuit training machines were added to the upstairs circuit room. All dumbbells up to 130 pounds have been replaced with better quality ones, and new cable crossover machines and 10 more cardio machines were added to the main floor and upper deck.

Finally, the Spin Cycle Room has all new Keiser M3I spin bikes—the top rated bike on the market. Each bike is equipped with Bluetooth, able to be paired with an app on a smartphone, and has magnetic resistance flywheels—making for a very smooth ride and minimal maintenance issues.

Additional Improvements

The Health Club has added 16 more security cameras and a new alarm system. The air conditioning system was updated, along with revamping the landscaping and parking lot. The Health Club's goal with all the renovations is to give members the best experience possible while using our facility.

Membership has grown to over 4,800 individuals, and with that comes opportunities for more fitness class offerings. The Health Club maintains 70 to 75 group exercise classes per week, year-round. Over the past year, they have added tai chi classes and more water classes. For the upcoming year, they plan to add POUND®, a drumming class that uses drumsticks for a fun, exhilarating full-body workout for all ages and fitness levels. They also will be adding a program called MX4 Active, which has classes for older, deconditioned adults to address stability, functional strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health in a small group class setting.

In addition, the Health Club will continue its partnership with Cooper Wellness Strategies™ by growing the Cooper® Tracks exercise and education program. The club currently offers the Cardiovascular Track, and plans are underway to offer the Cancer, Arthritis, Diabetes and Immunity/Reconditioning tracks throughout 2022.

"It has been truly incredible to see our club transform from what it used to be to what it is today," says Janet Charlesworth, Director of the Shannon Health Club. "We are so excited to share the current upgrades with the public, as well as for the renovations that are yet to be made. We hope our members are enjoying the improvements and continue to watch us grow with the future plans."
