Custom Vue in San Angelo

Vision Correction Tailored to Your Unique Needs

VISX Custom Vue is an individualized laser vision correction procedure that is WaveScan-driven. It enables us to measure and correct visual imperfections with a treatment that is tailored to each individual eye. Many of these imperfections cannot be measured or treated using traditional techniques. Similar to a fingerprint, each person's vision is unique to his or her eyes. The Custom Vue system can measure and correct vision problems to help you experience better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses. We refer to this as personal best vision.

FDA Study

The FDA study of 361 eyes treated with VISX Custom Vue produced the following results 12 months following laser vision correction:

  • 100 percent of study participants could see well enough to legally drive a car (20/40 or better) without glasses or contact lenses
  • 98 percent of study participants achieved uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better
  • 70 percent of those participants were 20/15 or better
  • Four times as many patients were very satisfied with their night vision after the procedure compared to their night vision before with glasses or contact lenses

WaveScan

WaveScan is a device from VISX which uses wavefront technology to measure imperfections in an individual's vision with the greatest precision possible. WaveScan technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. This technology has now been applied to LVC. WaveScan technology identifies and measures imperfections in an individual's vision 25 times more precisely than standard methods used for glasses or contact lenses. Shannon Laser Eye Center uses this information to treat patients with the Custom Vue procedure.

WavePrint Map

The WavePrint map is a visual representation of how a patient's optical system processes light. Produced by the WaveScan device, this map provides a more precise and detailed analysis of a patient's vision and is used by our physicians to ensure optimal LVC results. Similar to a fingerprint, the WavePrint map is completely unique to each individual eye.

3D Eye Tracker

The STAR S4 Excimer Laser System uses the ActiveTrak 3-D Tracker, a positioning device with infrared cameras which monitor all movements of the eye in three dimensions. This allows the patient to relax during the procedure knowing that the laser system is actively following eye movement to ensure greater precision and accuracy during treatment.
