Primary Specialty: Pain Management

About Provider Mahmood

Dr. Mahmood treats many chronic pain conditions including sports injury, neck pain, back pain, spine pain, herniated disc, sciatica, joint pain, arthritis, nerve pain, muscle strain, tendonitis, CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome), and many others. He has a particular interest in interventional-based therapies using ultrasound and X-ray guidance to diagnose and treat pain with minimally invasive, highly-targeted techniques. These include epidural steroid injection, medial branch and facet joint block, radiofrequency ablation, joint and bursa injection, visco-supplementation, tendon and muscle injection, botox, PRP (platelet rich plasma), nerve block, and peripheral and spinal cord stimulation. In addition to procedural interventions, Dr. Mahmood strives to optimize medication regimens and physical therapy using evidence-based guidelines to return patients to their maximum level of functioning.

Dr. Mahmood grew up in Amarillo, Texas and completed his undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Texas in Austin (Hook ‘em!), after which he attended Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine; and then completed residency in anesthesiology at University of Illinois at Chicago with his subspecialty fellowship training in interventional pain management at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr. Mahmood is double board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.

Dr. Mahmood takes great pride in providing compassionate, thorough, and personalized care for his patients. He is very interested in emerging therapies and frequently incorporates them into his practice to help patients failing traditional medical treatment. Prior to joining Shannon, Dr. Mahmood was in private practice at the Cleveland Clinic Spine and Pain Institute.

Dr. Mahmood is excited to return to his West Texas roots and provide comprehensive interventional pain management care for patients of the Concho Valley. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and keeping up with his Texas Longhorns.
