Preparing for Your Patient Visit

Admissions

We strive to make checking into Shannon Medical Center Big Spring as quick and stress-free as possible. Here are some tips to help make the admissions process a little easier.

Where To Go When You Arrive

The admissions desk is located at the front entrance of the hospital. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment.

Imaging

If you need to schedule any of the following tests, please call Central Scheduling at 432-268-4888.

  • CT Scans
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Mammography
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Ultrasound
  • X-ray/Radiology

On the day of your test, please arrive a few minutes early for registration. The outpatient registration area is located next to our Emergency Department. Patients will find ample parking in the Emergency Department parking lot. Patient registration hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Surgical Procedures

If you are scheduled to have a surgical procedure performed, it is necessary for you to pre-register in the admission desk. On the day of your surgical procedure, please report to the Same Day Surgery Center, which is located on the fourth floor of the hospital. Parking is available in the main entrance parking lot or the emergency room parking lot.

What to Bring
  • All current health insurance information, including your insurance card
  • A photo ID
  • Physician orders and prescriptions for any tests you will receive
  • Referrals from your primary care physician (if your insurer requires them)
  • A payment method for deductibles and copayments (financing is also available)
  • Your advance directive, if you have one

Hospitalist Staff

As a patient at Shannon Medical Center Big Spring, you may be cared for by our team of hospitalists, which are medical providers specially trained in the care of hospitalized patients. Working in collaboration with primary care doctors, hospitalists care for patients from the time they are admitted to the hospital until they are discharged. Hospitalists review care, prescribe medications, order tests and treatments, and coordinate follow-up care after discharge.
