Welcome from Our Director

Howdy!

Welcome to exploring an exciting and new Family Medicine Residency Program in the heart of west Texas. Although I come from a long history of military families, Texas has always been home. I received my undergraduate degree from Angelo State University, I obtained my medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock and El Paso, Texas. I completed my Family Medicine residency training in Harlingen, Texas and then went on to teach in a combined civilian military family medicine residency program for 8 years in Nebraska. I have spent the last 15+ years serving my rural southwest Texas community as a proud rural family physician, and now I am looking forward to training the next generation of physicians the art and science of patient centered, quality rural family medicine.

As your program director and graduate of the AAFP Leading Physician Wellness Program, I am committed to creating and maintaining a high-quality learning environment where there is mutual respect between students, teachers and peers. Shannon Family Medicine Residency Program is a community-based primary health care practice that integrates principles of full-scope family medicine required to address acute and chronic disease, emergency care, behavioral health, and preventive health services across the age continuum, including those unique to rural and underserved settings.

Our unique 25 county service area provides a diverse patient population with extensive disease exposure. Our affiliation with Texas A&M University School of Medicine provides the academic excellence and expertise to the heart of west Texas to include providing faculty development, research opportunities and tools for academic success.

We are searching for unique individuals who want to become excellent relational family medicine physicians who will provide comprehensive care for their community. Come help us create a legacy of innovation, education and teamwork that will continue to support rural communities in Texas.

We would love to have you pack your bags and join our team!
